Ooooooo. So the new ATi/AMDs are on sale :) I hope bogs hasn’t brought his ‘older’ generation yet.

Bogs… you need to update :D

Nice build Sonik. I’m presuming the CPU isn’t the K edition? As the B85 mobo’s can’t overclock. If it’s not… wow…. YOU’RE A NERD!! NEEEEEEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRRRRDDDDDDDD. You researched your shit. You know stuff about comps so you make good choices. NEEEERRD!

Any Corsair or Silverstone PSU will do. Modulars are always nice, it means you can look down on others who don’t and their cases look messy as shit. Reminds me of someone with their guts hanging out. One should go up to a car accident victim with his guts hanging out and say “you’re not modular. You look messy and the airflow is probably shit.”

Silverstone are now specialising in fanless ones. Every PSU I’ve had always ends up with a noisy fan. SO DO IT!

With cases, there’s always this fine line between nerd and brain dead lack on imagination. A case should be something you like the look of, to hell with ‘air flow efficiency’ and noise minimisation. The difference these days is so redundant it’s laughable.

I always put an effort in choosing my CPU cooler. Causes they look damn cool. You can get water cooling kits like

http://www.pccasegear.com/inde…..s_id=22315

which are just as easy to install as any air cooler. However, an air cooler of equal value is just as effective (and their are reports of the water pumps failing, and there’s no alarm system to tell you it has happened).

I’ve installed a few Coolmasters V4s lately http://www.pccasegear.com/inde…..s_id=22509 and would highly recommend them. The V8 GTs are out now which are crazy. Just make sure the dimensions fit your new case. The V4s will fit most but the V8s need to be checked.

Noctua are considered one of the best and are often recommended but they look like they were made in the 1950s. If your cases has no glass side, they’re fantastic. If you like to make sure the insides of your comp look good, don’t go near them. Having a nice case and a Noctua cooler is like wearing dark glasses and brown pants. Or buying Brink

Kill it with fire.

nah its not the K as i wouldn’t bother overclocking so no point spending the extra cash to get that model.

What Watt should i look for in the psu?

I believe the recommended wattage is anywhere between twice the minimum and maximum your system can do. As going low or too high a wattage means the PSU is running at its most inefficient level.

The 280X recommends a 600 watt (which is pretty spot on if running an i5 with that). Though keep in mind they always over exaggerate the wattage for ‘just in case reasons’. I’d think the 280x would even run on a 450watt if the PSU was decent enough.

I’d go around 750watts? But anything over 600 is good. Over 800watt would probably be too high and would actually use more electricity at the wall.

I think wos is doing a degree in electrical engineering guys. I thought PSU related questions were pretty common sense?

What you’ve got listed is pretty much perfect (eg i5, $100 of memory will get you 8GB, $160 mobo will get you a good one… anything over doesn’t really offer you anything for gaming – any Z87 will do really).

7970 and the 770 are pretty similar.

The 7990 are known to have noise issues (like capacitor whine).

If I was buying right now, I’d probably get 2x 7950s. Overclocked, they run faster than a 7990, cooler, cheaper etc.

However, the ATI 9000s are supposed to be out this month. Pissing on your decision making :D

You won’t notice any difference with the ram (over 1600Mhz anyway). It’s more for geeks who do extreme water overclocking…. when the cpu gets really high (say heading the 5Ghz speeds), the faster ram can finally be used (and even then, it’s more for visual numbers rather than experiencing any increase in speed).
