hey guys, seeing has i don’t know many people who know that much about computers and not that much my self, might as well ask some of you guys.

mainly what im going for is just speed in my computer and be able to play better and/or newer games.

have have a 2:3/4 year old computer and running Bf3 fairly well (20-50fps), it has 510W AC BEL or some power supply, a nvidia 9600GT graphics card, a intel(R) core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q8200 @ 2.33GHz 2.33 GHz, 4Gb’s of RAM and some old Gigabyte motherboard.

so that’s what i have and if you need any more details let me know, also i only have around $300 to spend, so its pretty tight :P .

For $300, you won’t be able to afford a CPU/Mobo/GPU upgrade. The C2Quad you’re using is still okay I guess as well. 4GB DDR2 is plenty. DDR3 doesn’t really have anything over 2 so that’s still good.

You could possibly overclock that CPU to over 3Ghz so keep that in mind ;)

The PSU is also going to prove troublesome for any reasonable upgrade.

The above just mentions the same PSU you have and it’s not good enough to run todays cards.

The 570/7870 is out of your budget (considering you must fit in a PSU as well) so it’s the nVidia 560ti vs the ATI/AMD 7850.

Picked Umart as they’re not far from you and have good prices. The above is probably one of the better choices.

Powersupply..

There’s not alot for your budget, but most 450W-550W will cover your needs fine.

Not bad for around $300 :p

Personally I am really surprised that 9600gt pulls that fps.

Depends if your using aero or not but 4GB of ram is pushing the limit on w7.

Your not going to get a mobo, cpu, ram and you combo with 300 =/

I would consider another stick of ram and a new gpu to tie you over…

Yeah, no idea how the 9600GT even boots BF3 up. Was a nice card in its time though.

You can run Win7 off 512MB of RAM if you want XD. It’s painful but it works. 1GB it works close to normal but still with too much hard drive noise. 2GB cures most ills but will struggle with games and heavy duty software (eg win7 runs at full speed but overlapping software may struggle). 3GB is the sweet spot. Fixes all issues with most games and software (yes, I’ve played with all this :p).

4GB of ram… even BF3 won’t use it all. It’s now the standard for most systems and they’ve shown win8 doesn’t use it all either. I’ve boosted to 8GB then 16GB and found no increased benefit (not yet anyway… sure it will be with BF4 :p)

Your right wos, but when I was tinkering with wow back in the say I noticed while running games with aero it would use up to 3.8gb. Considering ram is so cheap these days I go with 6gb.

Devel get a job and do real upgrade ;)

Vista needs roughly 900GB of RAM just to boot at normal speed.

It’ll also require a quad-sli setup to get its version of aero running. The Deep Blue Super Computer was even stressed running Vista.

Dark, upgrade to Win7 man. You can get some software called WinLoader7 which will crack win7 perfectly if you can’t afford a proper version. I might even have a spare win7 upgrade key around if you’re tempted.
